Night racing: Galloping to Cranbourne

06 Feb, 2012 03:00 AM
SOME of the biggest names in Australian racing will be in action when the next set of Cranbourne night trials are run tomorrow night.

Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker, superstar three-year-olds Sepoy and Helmet, Melbourne Cup placegetter Lucas Cranach and champion jumper Black And Bent are among 143 acceptors for the trial program.

Pinker Pinker's first appearance since the Cox Plate will come in either the 1000m open trial, for which Bel Sprinter is also engaged, or the 1200m hit-out in which Australian Cup fancy Lucas Cranach and Black And Bent are drawn to run.

Golden Slipper winner Sepoy and his Caulfield Guineas-winning stablemate Helmet headline the two 1000m trials for three-year-old colts and geldings.

Helmet will step out in the trial that kicks off the trial program, at 7.15pm, with Sepoy to follow in trial number two.

Tuesday night will also see a couple of trials for the babies. Blue Diamond Preview placegetter Members Joy has been entered for the fillies' workout and Peter Snowden-trained Blue Diamond contender Forget is among those nominated for the colts and geldings' trial.

Tuesday night's trials will be the second round of trials under lights at Cranbourne following a successful initiation on January 24.

Cranbourne will be unveiled as a night racing venue on Friday, March 9.
