CASEY Comets bounced back from the previous week's loss to defeat the Eastern Lions in a 4-3 shoot-out on Saturday.
The Comets hadn't beaten the Lions at home for several seasons and things didn't look to have changed when Eastern scored at the five-minute mark.
With the inclusion of Liam Ryan and John McEvoy, Casey took the game up to the home team and could have scored from four attempts by Tony Saunders and Farai Murwira.
The Comets drew level when a misplaced through ball from Saunders deceived the Lions defence and Negus Henry pounced on the loose ball to score his sixth goal of the season.
The second half proved a great spectacle with five goals.
The Comets dominated with Saunders and McEvoy prominent in the middle.
Saunders latched on to a loose ball in the box and put it past the keeper for his first of the season.
With 20 minutes remaining, Murwira put in his nomination for the goal of the year. The Comets relaxed and went into a defensive mood and were punished when the Lions scored.
With five minutes left, the Lions were awarded a penalty and goaled to level the scores.
The Comets were furiously defending their goal when, with almost the last move of the game, Ryan beat the Lions' goalkeeper for a dramatic win.
The reserves had a fine away win and moved into third spot with Rajiu Khana scoring the vital goal. Luke Presti was dominant in midfield and Blake Hicks shone at the back.
