CASEY was the centre of the soccer universe after trouncing Kingston City 9-0 in its state league division 2 south-east season finale on Saturday.
It was a danger game for the Comets after City defeated Diamond Valley, which was in the top four, 4-2 last week.
Coach Tony Saunders revved up his players before the match and with a more settled-looking line-up, Casey started brightly with Brendan Elmazovski making keeper Chris Anderson pull off a brilliant stop.
It took until the 14th minute for the home team to take the lead through Liam Ryan with a timed run into the box and coolly slotting the ball into the net.
From that moment, Casey took control and at the half-hour mark, Paul Presti made it 2-0 with a touch of class. Just on the half-time whistle, referee Luke Brennan gave Kingston midfielder Alex Abrivopoulis marching orders for dissent and foul language.
The second half turned into a nightmare for Kingston when, in the 51st minute, its goalkeeper Anderson was given an early shower for bringing down Presti, who made it 3-0 from the resultant spot kick.
Saunders then scored a brilliant angled drive past stand-in keeper Shane Mulagan. Liam Ryan got his second of the game and made it 5-0 in the 64th minute and Presti got his third for the day to make it 6-0.
Top goal scorer Kris Paterson got into the act with a hat-trick and Presti could have made it 10-0 but pulled his shot into the side netting.
It was a relieved bunch of supporters who sang the team song in the dressing rooms after the game. Dean Schembri was voted man of the match for his non-stop running and enthusiasm.
The win moves Casey into eighth on the ladder after winning the past five games and avoiding relegation next year.
