Williamstown dominated the top-of-the-table clash from the outset and went on to win 24.12(156) to 4.8 (32) against the home side, which lost several key players before the game.

Scorpions coach Brad Gotch wasn't offering any excuses for the dismal display against his old club.

"We won't give the players any excuses. We are an honest side that relies on a team effort and unfortunately we didn't get a team effort and struggled as a result," he said.

"We had won the last seven in a row and had been really impressive, but unfortunately it was just one of those days.

Williamstown was harder at the ball, cleaner with its disposal, and had all the answers up forward.

The Seagulls are top of the VFL ladder and premiership favourites.

On what was a dark day for Casey, Gotch did find positives in the loss.

"I thought Daniel Bell did an excellent job on the Williamstown veteran Brett Johnson and Paul Johnson worked hard in the ruck all day. Both of those boys put their hands up for AFL selection.

Williamstown youngster Matthew Little was the main star up forward, slotting eight majors, while Ben Casley was the next best with four.

Gotch and his men came up against old coach Peter German.

"He had a lot of inside knowledge on our better players and they were really able to exploit them," said Gotch.

"We weren't able to get any of our usual run off the half-back line and just lacked intensity all day."

The Scorpions now enjoy a week off before resuming in a fortnight against the Werribee Tigers.

"The guys will get a few days off, get themselves refreshed both physically and mentally and we can start building on a strong finish to what has been a good season so far," Gotch said.
