VFL: Casey Scorpions rebound to bounce Tigers

05 Jul, 2010 01:00 AM

CASEY Scorpions returned to the Victorian Football League winners' list with a clinical 41-point win over Werribee on Saturday.

The win was all the more credible after the game was shifted from Casey Fields because of the poor playing surface to Werribee's home ground at Chirnside Park.

Casey was coming off a 124-point thrashing by Williamstown the week before, and responded in the best possible way, defeating Werribee, 17.15(117) to 10.16(76).

The Tigers led by 19 points at quarter-time, but the Scorpions replied with seven unanswered goals in the second term to lead by 20 points at half-time. Casey's AFL Melbourne-listed players took control and the Scorps booted five goals in the final quarter. Melbourne live wire Liam Jurrah showed he's recovered from a shoulder injury and Colin Sylvia put his hand up for a return to AFL level with three goals.
