EFL: Kooweerup Demons outgunned in a thriller

12 Jul, 2010 01:00 AM
KOOWEERUP'S finals chances look to have disappeared after the Demons lost to Poowong by a point in an Ellinbank Football League thriller on Saturday.

The Demons went to sleep when it mattered in the final term and let Poowong get back into the game and snatch a memorable win, 9.6(60) to 8.11 (59).

Koowee got off to a flyer booting five unanswered goals in the opening term and were then held scoreless in the second quarter, but looked to have a match-winning lead at three-quarter time.

Not to be outdone, Poowong rallied and showing more desire and going in harder for the ball fought back and slammed on six goals for a famous victory.

Jason Williams was Koowee's main goalkicker with three, while Gav Marusic and and Craig Dyker dominated general play.

Lang Lang was never really in the contest against ladder leaders

Nar Nar Goon, losing by 57

points.

The Tigers were held scoreless in the first quarter and played catch-up football for the next three quarters before going down, 5.12 (42) to 14.15 (99).

Sean Dwyer was a workhorse for the Tigers, kicking two goals, while Stuart Casey and Clint Evans battled hard against the odds.
