KOOWEERUP got its new year off to a flying start with a narrow six-run win over Beaconsfield in its West Gippsland Cricket Association clash at Kooweerup Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Michael Giles' 87 at the top of the order helped Kooweerup compile 9-222 from its 40 overs with Matt Davey (47) also chipping in.
In reply, Beaconsfield was bowled out for 216 in the 40th over in a thrilling climax to a high-quality match.
In other results, Pakenham defeated Officer, Cardinia proved too strong for Upper Beaconsfield and Tooradin beat Pakenham-Upper Toomuc.
