CASEY-South Melbourne dug in to set Camberwell Magpies a difficult target in their Premier Cricket two-day clash at Camberwell on Saturday
The Swans made 7-306 declared with Jon Leaver (84) and Clive Rose (62) leading the charge. Shane Maggs scored vital runs late in the innings, 49 not out.
The Magpies were bowled out 275 after three late wickets from spinner Clive Rose who ended up taking 6-88.
■ In DDCA turf 1 play, Dandenong West bowler Peter Atkinson took 7-33 as his side bowled out Narre Warren for 124. West was 3-34 in response but remained confident they would claim the win.
Atkinson's figures were remarkable as he only had 1-26 at tea before taking 6-6 from nine overs in the final session.
Parkfield's Steve Spoljaric showed exactly why he is considered the class player of the competition as he made 136 in bowler-friendly conditions against Hallam Kalora Park.
Spoljaric's innings helped Parkfield to 227, a score Hallam will have to chase down this Saturday.
Doveton is in position to score an outright win over Keysborough when play resumes at Keysborough Reserve.
The Borough was bowled out for 120 in its innings with Matt Hutchinson (4-42) leading the charge before Doveton bats Brad Downe, 46 and Hutchinson, 39 quickly helped the visitors to 3-125, a score which they swiftly declared on.
The Borough was 2-16 at stumps in its second innings and will have to defend its final eight wickets stoically if it is to avoid handing full points to Doveton.
North Dandenong also gets the opportunity to score an outright win after skittling Heinz Southern Districts for 48. North is 2-134 in response and hasn't indicated if it will bat on when play resumes or take the ball again.
Berwick is in a commanding position against Mordialloc despite being bowled out for 172. Berwick has Mordialloc 3-46 at stumps with James Davies in ominous form with 2-7.
Springvale South looks a good chance of returning to the winners' list as the Bloods chase Buckley Ridges' 170 this Saturday. Te Ahu Davis led the Ridges with 54 runs while Tim Ford (4-92) and Suranjith Silva (3-30) were the chief destroyers for the Bloods.
