A DISPUTE has been lodged over the result of Saturday's Tooradin-Officer West Gippsland Cricket Association top-grade clash.
The Journal was yesterday unable to contact either club to ascertain the nature of the dispute, but according to the My Cricket scorecard, Tooradin (9-159) appeared to have taken the spoils with one wicket to spare.
Outstanding bowling at the start of the day from Steve Hammill (2-30) and Callum O'Hare (3-20) put Tooradin in front early, though a middle order revival from Officer helped them put the runs on the board.
Rory Alder was thrown the ball and he had an immediate impact, cleaning up the tail with 3-34 to restrict Officer to 155.
A gutsy 39 from youngster Ben Mantel was the highlight of Tooradin's innings, while Daniel Hunt also made a valuable contribution with 39.
Needing someone to bring the victory home, Jay Wilson stepped up with an important 32 in a tense finish.
Kooweerup has incurred its first loss of the season, going down to Catani by 12 runs at Kooweerup Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
Normally a very strong outfit in the shortened version of the game, Kooweerup will be disappointed that it let this one slip, on the back of some fairly ordinary batting.
With the pill, Kooweerup restricted its opposition to 163.
Shane Dole was the pick of the bowlers with 3-29, while all other bowlers grabbed one wicket each.
Kooweerup never really got going with the bat, and had wicketkeeper Chris Bright not chimed in with 51, the scorecard would have been a whole lot worse.
Trav Canavan got 28, though it mattered little as Kooweerup fell short of the required total.
In District matches, Devon Meadows cruised to victory with a comfortable victory against Emerald.
The Meadows skittled their opposition for a paltry 101, with Paul Zauner (3-23) and James Howard (3-11) the main destroyers.
Small totals can quite often be hardest to chase down, however. Devon made very light work, thanks to solid knocks from Darren O'Brien (33 not out) and Bruce Watson (25).
Merinda Park remains undefeated after its solid victory against Kilcunda-Bass at Donnelly Reserve. The Cobras put their opposition in after winning the toss, and it turned out to be an inspired decision. Kilcunda-Bass was bowled out for 128.
Matty Pongracic was outstanding with the ball, taking 5-29, and Jess Mathers was more than handy with 4-12.
The Cobras were made to work for the win, however, passing the total six wickets down on the back of an important 28 from Brett Wittingham.
