DANDENONG District Cricket Association leader Doveton moved 10 points ahead of second-placed Buckley Ridges after winning their tense clash at Park Oval on Saturday.
The Doves resumed at 3-24, chasing Ridges' 184, and looked set for victory at 5-130 with captain Ryan Hendy (32) and keeper Ben Baxter (34) at the crease.
But when both batsmen were quickly dismissed the Doves were again on the back foot and when their ninth wicket fell they still needed seven runs for victory.
Enter first-year Dove and former Officer player Shane White (30), who hit his side to a winning total of 207. White took a shock 8-34 on the first day.
In other matches Heinz Southern Districts notched a valuable win, making 5-194 chasing Mordialloc's 180.
Hallam Kalora Park was outright victor over Keysborough, making 6-272 before bowling out Keysborough for 47 and 112.
Dandenong West beat Parkfield, making 107 and 3-97 while Parkfield was bowled out for 80.
Narre Warren beat North Dandenong, which fell short with 248 after Narre made 9-258.
Springvale South bowled out Berwick for 288, with Jarrod Armitage taking 5-53, and Berwick star Ryan Crawford finished the match with a century.
