A NARRE Warren woman who recorded a blood-alcohol reading of 0.304 — more than six times the legal limit — appeared fairly lucid, according to the police officer who charged her.
Leading Senior Constable David Hewatt of the Endeavour Hills police said the 34-year-old woman was picking up her son and daughter from the Berwick Lodge Primary School in Berwick on Tuesday when her vehicle rolled forward and crashed into a parked vehicle outside the school.
Police called to the scene by the driver of the other car found the woman’s six-month-old daughter in the car.
Leading Senior Constable Hewatt said he had never seen such a high reading in his years of policing.
No one was injured in the crash but school had just finished for the day and the street was filled with young school children and their parents.
‘‘It could have been disastrous.’’
He said the woman seemed surprised by the fuss. ‘‘It was like it was just another day, she was here to pick up her kids and what was the problem?’’ he said.
Leading Senior Constable Hewatt said the woman’s husband was on the scene by the time police arrived and he took charge of the three children.
The woman’s licence was suspended and she was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, exceeding the prescribed concentration of alcohol and careless driving.
