HAMPTON Park traders and residents hope the area might be finally able to shake its downtrodden image with the rebranding and integration of the retail and business precincts.
The Hampton Park Centre, bounded by Hallam, Fordholm and Somerville roads and Stuart Avenue, has four names but will be united under the more contemporary Hampton Park Central.
The proposed change received widespread community acceptance last week.
Hampton Park Progress Association president Warren Calder said the name change was "a step in the right direction" to give the area an image boost.
"Most of the traders and residents I have spoken to believe this is a positive change for Hampton Park, which deserves better recognition as a great place to shop and live," he said.
Hampton Park Networking Group president Vanassa Gerdes said members were supportive of the name change.
Casey's manager of strategic development Liam Hodgetts said the different shopping areas had created confusion for residents and visitors.
Mr Hodgetts said the council hoped that as the centre became recognised under a single, unified name it would start to enjoy "improved recognition and pride" as a destination for a variety of community, retail and business activities.
Casey Council has already started to co-ordinate physical improvements to the centre with the adoption of the Hampton Park Development Plan and the Hampton Park Community Renewal initiative.
