COMMUTERS' cars are becoming bogged on lawns surrounding Merinda Park railway station because of a shortage of car parking spaces.
There is also a concern that with the establishment of new housing estates in Casey, overcrowding in the car park will get worse.
Cranbourne resident Sally Joy, who travels into the city weekly from the station, says cars were being parked on grass next to the parking area.
"Now that it's wet the grassed area is just mud. You can't park there without the fear of getting bogged, blocked in or that someone might crash into your car."
She said discarded floor mats were often found on the grassed area, used by commuters in a bid to free their cars from the mud.
Cranbourne North resident Sarah Nammuni Dewage said her husband Dihan required the help of fellow commuters recently, when his car became bogged on the grassed area at Merinda Park station.
She was "disgusted" by the car park and lack of action taken in fixing the issue.
"I don't know why the car park can't be extended onto the grass. People in this area should be encouraged to used public transport, not be inconvenienced by it."
The Public Transport Users Association's outer east convener Jeremy Lunn said the association was already on the right track to address the " recurring problem across the rail network".
Mr Lunn said the PTUA had called for more bus services to connect with each train, to provide an alternate solution to the issue.
"This would alleviate demand on existing parking spaces, leaving them free for people who live beyond reach of the bus.
"Experience shows that additional parking spaces fill up again quickly without adequate bus services."
