Artist to 'hang' with Top Ten

06 Sep, 2010 01:00 AM
A PICTURE-perfect opportunity has been presented to Cranbourne artist Marie Warnecke, with her snaring a guest billing at a travelling art show in October.

She has been selected as the guest artist for the annual Kevin Hill's Top Ten Australian Artists Art Show at the City of Casey Civic Centre on October 9-10.

The watercolour artist said she was "very excited" by the opportunity to hang 30 of her pieces alongside artists such as Pro Hart, Max Mannix and Ian Hansen.

"I have done quite a few solo exhibitions, but I've never 'hung' with people like Pro Hart," Warnecke said.

"I'd have to say that it certainly is a great honour to be hanging with those

artists."

Warnecke said she had drawn inspiration previously from the gardens in Berwick, the seascape at Tooradin and the pier at Hastings. "I do love to paint landscapes and anything that has to do with the sea," she said.

"You don't have to go far in the City of Casey to find inspiration."

Warnecke and her husband Denis moved to Casey from Magnetic Island in far north Queensland two years ago, and have both contributed to the region's art scene.

The pair are members of the Berwick Artists Society and Mrs Warnecke was one of the founding members of the Cranbourne Arts and Crafts Society.

Warnecke said she was surprised by the "active art scene" in Casey when she first moved to the area.

"I think that Casey Council is taking a wonderful interest in the arts."

Warnecke will be available across the two-day event to discuss her work with visitors.
